A Democracy Cannot Exist As a Permanent Form of Government

A democracy cannot stand on its own. In the past fifty years, several countries, such as Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia have et al. Sadly, not one is a fully self-sufficient state. It's an unfortunate truth, a la Australia, that in a democracy, the government will do much of the heavy lifting for you. This is the reason a nation's budget must be balanced in the first place. One way to do this is to enact an effective tax system. The tax system is the engine that drives the country's economy. Getting it right is an art in and of itself.

What makes a democracy a truly great idea in the long term? To wit, the best way to accomplish this is to get people to be willing to put in the necessary effort. To make this happen, the aforementioned tax scheme has to be implemented in a way that motivates people to do the right thing. Those who are incentivized to do the right thing should be rewarded for their efforts, which in turn leads to a more productive society. Not to mention, a better place to live, a better place to work, and a better place to raise a family.

Hopefully, this will all come to fruition in the next few years. As for the short-term, the government isn't quite nipping at your arse in the name of democracy. In the long run, a more equitable relationship between citizens and the government can only benefit the nation as a whole.
